AAMCO Transmissions and Total Car Care of Lakewood, New Jersey. A total team you can depend on.

LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- Roy Argento, the owner of AAMCO Transmissions and Total Car Care of Lakewood, NJ, along with longtime customer service manager, Mike Spicer, are the team to turn to when your car needs work.

“I love it when a customer is comfortable enough with you to give you the keys and say: ‘this is my problem; just do what you can to fix it please,’ ” said Argento.

Although the car care business is “ever changing,” he said, as technology and shop equipment evolve and new tools are required to be the best in the business, he has invested regularly in these areas.

Spicer has been with AAMCO of Lakewood for more than a decade and a half.

“That doesn’t happen too often,” said Argento of Spicer’s commitment.

Argento, the shop’s owner, is “second generation,” he said. He and his father previously operated a shop in Perth Amboy for some 28 years, before purchasing the AAMCO in Lakewood in 1996. But these days Argento’s focus is purely on the his sole AAMCO. (Argento’s father purchased the Perth Amboy shop in 1980.)

Argento said he has three experienced technicians who can tackle any job the business acquires, including extensive transmission work.

But, I manage the business, “day-to-day,” said Argento.

“Mike manages the business and I [oversee both] him and the business itself.

“I have everything from shocks, struts, brakes, motor oil changes, wheel alignments, and we do major engine replacements, [but] our core business is transmissions,” said Argento, citing overall “total car care.”

Spicer, who has years of training and education related to managing the business, directs the technicians, orders parts for jobs, and many more daily tasks.

Citing AAMCO’s nationwide warranty and fact that all work is backed by the chain’s high quality standards, Argento and Spicer said their goal is to keep everyone safe on the road.

What’s more, AAMCO is one of the most trusted and recognized “automotive” brands in the United States.

The company’s official 50th anniversary was celebrated in 2013. That year marked important milestones, including the launch of the business concept as a chain of transmission shop franchises in 1962, and the first AAMCO franchise the following year, which was located in Newark, NJ.

“The service was done well as always,” said one customer recently. “I have been taking my vehicles [to AAMCO of Lakewood] for years. I love the manager of the shop, Michael.”

Another customer, who owns a 2004 Infinite G35 Sedan, in November added: “Michael and Roy, the gentlemen who run shop are great! They always provide excellent work and the shop is excellent! I wouldn't continue to bring my vehicle [to them] if it wasn't.”

AAMCO’S state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment allows it to distinguish between minor and major repairs, saving patrons on unnecessary repair costs. All technicians are trained in the latest diagnostic equipment and software, while AAMCO has its own diagnostic codebooks -- something not found at competitive shops.
