Story 1
Leena came to Sollers College, nervous and unsure. During counseling, she indicated that she had been sitting home for the last six months because of motherhood and lack of work authorization. Her master’s degree in life sciences from India had become purely ornamental.
During the information session with Sollers, her hands were shaking, her fear and lack of confidence very visible.
One month into the certification we saw a distinct change in her, a smile more visible, eye contact more frequent. After repeated sessions with career services, Leena faced a panel of 5 interviewers and landed an offer letter with Celgene, a big Pharma. Today Leena makes frequent presentations and has published over a dozen articles in drug development
Story 2
Amit left his cardiology practice in India and moved to the US since his son has down’s syndrome. In search of better prospects for his son he reached the shores of New York City. The moved costed him his clinical practice.
The journey with the USMLE steps and application for residency match proved disappointing for a skilled medical professional like Amit.
Amit found himself looking at allied healthcare career options that paid a fraction of what Amit was hoping for.
Disappointed and worn out, as Amit and his wife toyed with the idea of returning homewards, even as their son flourished in the public-school system.
A visit to Sollers College made Amit realize that Foreign Medical Graduates can leverage their medical background and make the kind of money a physician hopes to make. Today it’s heartening to see Amit as a Medical Reviewer in Virginia working from home, watching little Sunny tell him why he enjoys Algebra & world History the best.
Story 3
The phone rings three times. It is a pharmacist personal mobile. She looks at her phone and the long line forming outside her pharmacy center. Some customers more impatient than others. She ignores her phone and puts it on silent.
A dedicated retail pharmacist licensed to practice in the States of NJ & NY, Susan had always put her work above everything else. Two hours later, she is horrified to see 11 missed calls from her father. With trepidation and shaking hands, she dials his number only to find her mother in emergency with a burst appendix. This is a moment of truth for Susan. The realization that her life lacks a work life balance.
Today as a drug safety pharmacist and a proud advocate of Sollers College, Susan makes it a point to visit her parents every weekend. She continues to hope that the drug she is working on will be the next groundbreaking drug in the oncology space.
Story 4
Angelina has not left home in a week. Her third attempt at a residency match had proven unsuccessful. Despondent she had spent the morning weeping. The March Madness seemed to have gripped her. With over USD 200,000 in student loans from a Caribbean Medical College and a career that was going nowhere, she seemed to have lost her verve.
Forced onto a networking event by a friend, she met a drug safety physician who introduced her to Sollers College. An alumnus himself, Sollers had helped him launch his career in pharmacovigilance.
Desperate and eager, Angelina came to an information session at the Sollers campus to enquire more about the career prospects for a foreign medical doctor in Pharmaceuticals. Today not only has she paid off her loan, she finds herself a force to reckon within the field of Drug Safety.
Story 5
Dr Li Na, an MD from Yale & PhD from Columbia university was staggered when she found herself on the doors of the unemployment office.
Laid off from serving diligently as a Principal Scientist with a big pharma, she found the need to retool herself at the age of 50. Even as she asked herself and the admission office at Sollers College, if her resume was lacking anything.
A little research about job prospects in clinical research and information session at Sollers made her realize that she could successfully transition into a career in clinical research. Confident again with the realization that there is a blessing that can be attributed to her being laid off, she enrolled into the program with great enthusiasm.
Calling this her opportunity to retool herself and keep her resume updated, her gusto for the program saw her leave the career services at Sollers as Clinical Research Scientist. Today she is a Clinical Director with a major CRO (Contract Research Organization) and a deeply grateful alumnus of Sollers.
